Публичная лекция Стефано Бартолини «Shifting Society from Money to Well-Being»

13 ноября 2015 года в НИУ ВШЭ (г. Санкт-Петербург) состоится публичная лекция известного экономиста Стефано Бартолини «Shifting Society from Money to Well-Being».

The most celebrated examples of growth in both developed and developing countries in the past few decades - the US, China and India – share similar patterns of declining subjective well-being. Increase in social comparisons and decline of social capital are the main factors responsible for such disappointing outcome. Why haven’t economic growth succeeded in combining economic growth and wellbeing? Why growth seems to be accompanied by the erosion of positive human relationships (social capital) and the outburst of negative relationships (social comparisons)? The author argues that there is no an ineluctable trade-off between material affluence and the quality of interpersonal relationships. The decline of the latter is to be attributed to the current socio-economic organization that pays little attention to relational quality. It is not so much growth, but its social quality that matters for well-being. From a wide range of approaches He suggests policies that would shift the economy to a more well-being enhancing path. Such policies concern a change of the school system, of healthcare, of the media, of urban organization, of work, of democracy.
